This 2-day workshop is designed to provide instruction for RN’s, LPN’s or Other Health Care Professionals who wish to teach nurse aides in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Topics include understanding of the board of nursing regulations for nurse aides and nurse aide training programs, principles of adult learning, creative teaching, developing lesson plans and the certification process. This program is designed to meet the Virginia Board of Nursing Regulations Governing Nurse Aides. 12 Clock Hours as required by the Virginia Board of Nursing.
Target Student: RNs (Only RNs may be the Primary Instructor who teach the majority of the class but may also operate as Other Instructional Personnel) and LPNs (LPNs are able to operate as Other Instructional Personnel)
The following objectives will be covered:
1.Review of current Board of Nursing (BON) regulations & web site.
2.Review required curriculum content for BON nurse aide training programs.
3.Discuss the basic principles of adult learning and teaching methods and tools for adult learners.
4.Review clinical organization and evaluation.
5.Identify evaluation strategies and tools to measure learning outcomes.
6.Review written & skills evaluations of Nurse Aide Testing with review of the skills evaluated on the NNAAP.
7.Identify steps required for a successful BON annual on-site review.
Approved by NAB/NCERS for 10.00 CEU’s.
Class Hours: 9 am to 3:30 pm each day

Dawn Beninghove, RN, is an accomplished nurse, trainer, and entrepreneur. She is the Founder and Former COO of Companion Extraordinaire Nursing Network, Inc., established in 2003. With extensive experience in establishing and teaching entry-level healthcare programs, Dawn’s innovative and creative teaching style is truly a joy to witness.
Dawn has received numerous awards, including Influential Women of Virginia, Virginia Nurses Association Entrepreneur of the Year, Allen, Allen & Allen Hometown Hero, and more. In 2023, she was recognized by the Governor of Virginia for her contributions as a Woman Owned/Nurse Owned Business.
Her certifications include Certified Rehabilitation Provider, Case Manager, Senior Advisor, First Aid/CPR Instructor, Certified Dementia Practitioner and Trainer, among others. Additionally, Dawn is the Founder of the Trained To Care Foundation 501c3, which provides educational scholarships.
